Cosmetic Dentistry

Dr. Karen Man offers a wide range of cosmetic dentistry options to provide each patient with individual dental care to improve overall aesthetics and help you obtain a beautiful smile.

Veneers

Veneers are thin porcelain shells that are custom fitted to improve the colour, position, and shape of your teeth. This minimally invasive procedure is routinely used to cover teeth which are discoloured, worn, chipped, or misaligned. Veneers are used for many of the same reasons as bonding but they involve a different procedure.

The first step is a consultation with your dentist to determine the look and feel you wish to achieve. Impressions and photos are taken and an aesthetic mockup of the final product is created on models to ensure you get exactly the result you want. Upon your approval of the design, the teeth are prepared for the final restorations. Dr. Man then works with her ceramist to fabricate the porcelain veneers. Once the veneers are fabricated, they are then cemented into place. Although veneers are more expensive and time-consuming than bonding, they are less expensive and conserve tooth structure when compared to crowns.

Typically veneers are difficult to stain, making veneers a very popular solution for many people seeking that perfect smile. Strong and very durable, veneers last from ten to fifteen years, and come in colours that will brighten dark teeth without the worry of them changing colour.

Bonding

Composite bonding is a minimally invasive procedure in which composite resin is used to improve the shape and appearance of teeth. Using materials that match the shade, translucency and the texture of your teeth, gaps between teeth can be closed, spots and discolourations can be eliminated.

The dentist will match the shade of your existing teeth and then tooth-coloured composite resin is applied to the tooth much like a filling procedure. The procedure is sometimes referred to as bonding because an adhesive agent is used to actually bond the resin to the tooth structure.

The resin is hardened (cured) with a light and then shaped, contoured, and polished to give a cosmetic and natural appearance. Bonding is the least expensive cosmetic procedure and can be completed during a single dental visit.

In-Office Tooth Whitening

In-office Whitening is ideal for anyone wanting immediate results. Tooth whitening is a procedure that can lighten the shade of your teeth and remove stain or discolouration caused by aging, certain medications, tobacco, coffee, and tea.

Dr. Man will often take a photo of your existing tooth colour to monitor your progress and compare the new lighter shade of your teeth throughout treatment. A protective barrier is applied to your gums to protect the soft tissue. A special light-activated gel is then applied to your teeth and a special light is used to enhance the action of the agent, making your teeth whiter and brighter. Tooth whitening will not last forever, so the procedure will have to be repeated on a regular basis.

Whitening can cause increased tooth sensitivity in some people. This is a normal side effect and usually subsides a few days after the whitening treatments have been completed. Whitening procedures should be avoided if you are pregnant.

Dermal Fillers

Fine lines and wrinkles can disappear. Thin, sagging lips can be transformed. With the emergence of dermal fillers into the field of dentistry, you can truly transform your appearance with a few quick, safe procedures.

Diagnostic / Cosmetic Photographs

Using high-resolution dental photography, Dr. Man is able to thoroughly and effectively plan procedures and treatments to give you the results you desire. Intra-oral and facial photographs help her communicate with labs to ensure highly aesthetic restorations, and allow her to identify every detail of your teeth and smile to visualize the final result before she begins treatment.
